Scott Martinsen is a Shareholder in the law firm of Kirkland Woods & Martinsen PC, which has offices in Liberty, Missouri and Overland Park, Kansas. He works with individual clients in the preparation of Wills, Revocable Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, Durable Powers of Attorney, Living Wills and Charitable Organizations. His practice includes counseling clients in the areas of gifting techniques, asset protection, charitable planning and business succession planning. He also advises individuals and corporations in estate and trust administration matters, including litigation involving estates and trusts.
Mr. Martinsen is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (“ACTEC”) and a member of the ACTEC Fiduciary Litigation Committee, State Laws Committee, and Program Committee. He was the Chairman of the Probate and Trust Law Committee of the Missouri Bar from 2007 through 2010, and is currently a member of both the Trust Revision Subcommittee and the Legislative Review Subcommittee of the Missouri Bar. Mr. Martinsen has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2005 and Super Lawyers.
He is a frequent author and lecturer on estate planning topics at seminars sponsored by ACTEC, The Missouri Bar, the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Mr. Martinsen received his J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School in 1991 (magna cum laude), and his B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Scott was a Note Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review and a Director of the Domestic Violence Division of the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic.Mr. Martinsen is admitted to practice in Missouri and Kansas.
